Unusual Sky photographs

This page is under preparation

Nacreous sky is a very rare sight. Nacreous means mother of pearl.

This sky was seen from Aberdeen on 30th of November, 1999 and is a prism effect of high (about 40,000 feet) ice crystals and high winds giving a rainbow effect as and just after the sun sets. It only happens about once a year in Scotland and Scandanavia.

The colours are from pale pink through yellow to pale green, and change as the sun goes down

This is the first time that Rona and I have ever seen this rare sky.
