There is a scenic railway journey from Glasgow to Fort William and then out to the west coast village of Mallaig which we have long thought of seeing.

In late October we had the time to do this. It meant a three hour train journey to Glasgow, followed by a most beautiful five hour run to Mallaig, via Fort William at the bottom of the Caledonian canal. This railway cannot go direct to Fort William because of the mountains and so circles round our highest mountain, Ben Nevis, going across desolate Rannoch Moor, with breathtaking scenery. Then out to the end of the line through the most beautiful hills and lochs to the fishing port of Mallaig, which is also a ferry port for the south tip of the Isle of Skye.

This a small sample of our digital photographs of our trip to Mallaig by train.

If you pass your cursor over the photo the name should show.
