Our house is situated in south Aberdeen, near the river Dee. This gives a nice walk as the river is only about 50 yards away, and there two bridges about a quarter of a mile in either direction, giving a mile long stroll.
In the other direction, again about 50 yards away is the old Royal Deeside railway line, now a walkway. To the west is goes for about 8 miles, while to the east it goes for about 1/2 a mile to the lovely Duthie Park with its world famous Winter Garden, which is a series of very large glasshouses with all sorts of plants to tropical and desert cactus. Touring buses usually make this a stop.
Our house is a standard Scottish size giving two living rooms, three double bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom, hallway and separate toilet.
The front garden is divided in two by a path to the front door. Both front garden areas are planted mainly with miniature conifers of various kinds and heathers. These are interspersed with tulips, daffodils and crocus in the spring and various other flowers in summer.
The front of the house has climbing clematis and winter flowering jasmine, also a large philadelphus(mock orange). Also border dahlias in late summer.
The rear garden is quite long, but narrow and split into two main areas. First a patio with a rockery area before the drying green. Then a flower area and our greenhouse. The bottom half is now flowers first and then fruit areas. Fruit grown has been - redcurrants, blackcurrents, raspberries, gooseberries, rhubarb, brambles and apples, both cooking and eating. Black grapes are grown in the greenhouse.
